What is brain fog?

It’s been two and half years since Covid-19 became a pandemic, the most commonly known symptoms include: fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. However long covid sufferers is experiencing a wider set of symptoms including cognitive impairment also known as “brain fog”. 

 

So what exactly is “brain fog”?

The symptoms of brain fog include concentration problem, memory loss, lost of words and overwhelmed with simple tasks etc. 

 

According to Neuroscience Dr. Alexander Merkler MD:

when our body combats bugs and viruses our immune system takes over. Sometimes the body might overreact and also attacks the healthy cells in an attempt to clear the virus.

So it’s possible that the immune system recognises the coronavirus proteins (which is very similar to proteins in our brain) and mistakenly attacking the brain which causes brain fog.

根據美國紐約神經病學的 Dr. Alexander Merkler:

“腦霧”形成的可能是我們的免疫系統和病毒對抗時,身體反應過度,意外地攻擊正常健康細胞。因為大腦中的一些蛋白質恰好與病毒蛋白質非常相似,免疫系統或難以分別新冠病毒蛋白質與大腦的蛋白質,因而作出攻擊,產生”腦霧”。
